Corporal Manny Lopez
Corporal Manny Lopez was a graduate of North Rockland High School and a native to Haverstraw, New York. He would later go on to serve in the United States Army. He was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 7th Infantry Regiment, and 3rd Infantry Division stationed in Baghdad, Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. On April 12th, 2005 he paid the ultimate sacrifice when a rocket-propelled grenade hit his Humvee while he was on patrol. At the young age of 20, he left behind his mother Yolanda Lopez, his wife Kira and his daughter Isabella.
He was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. The Purple Heart is awarded to those who are either killed or wounded in action. The Bronze Star is awarded to those in the United States military who posses acts of bravery and merit.
Corporal Manny Lopez has shown the extraordinary qualities that cadets in our honor society should aspire to. He is a true inspiration and it is an honor to have the Corporal Manny Lopez NJROTC Honor Society be named after him. The Corporal Manny Lopez NJROTC Honor Society focuses on community service, unit service, conduct, appearance in uniform, aptitude and physical fitness which were all attributes of Corporal Manny Lopez.
On Memorial Day 2019 we came up with the idea of naming our honor society after Corporal Manny Lopez. It was then approved by Dr. Gill and the Board of Education. On June 12th, 2019 we were able to get permission to name the honor society after him from his mom Yolanda Lopez. Ms. Lopez is very active in supporting our service members, veterans and those who paid the ultimate sacrifice.
